THE REV. DR. HAROLD PREMCHAND MAHATOO March 11, 1938 - June 26, 2003 Suddenly on June 26, 2003, the Rev. Dr. Harold Premchand Mahatoo passed away in Winnipeg, at the age of 65 years. He was the husband of Sherri (nee Raghoo) father of Brendan, Roel, Nerina and Nadene; and grandfather of four; as well as stepfather of Navindra Persaud; brother of Grace, Cynthia, Sylvia, Sandra, Andrew, Dennis, and Dave; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his son Denzil and his parents, Haripersad and Baboonie; and brother Sookdeo. Harold immigrated to Canada in 1963 from Trinidad to take up a teaching appointment in Montreal. He continued his studies in the field of Education at the University of Guelph, ON, and University of Waterloo, ON, where he received his B.A. and M.A., specializing in Education. He finally attended the University of Philadelphia, U.S.A., where he received his Doctor of Philosophy, specializing in Educational Administration. During the last 14 years, he was employed at Grassy Narrows, ON, as the Director of Education; Bimose Tribal Council, ON, as Director and Coordinator of Education; Ear Falls Board of Education, ON, as Principal and Director; Fisher River Education Authority, MB, as Director of Education associated with the University of Manitoba. Lastly, he operated his own business called "First Nations Education Seminars". Dad - I will remember you forever. I know you will walk with me throughout my journey and lead me in the right directions. Dad, rest in peace, free from pains and sorrows. Love, your son forever, Brendan. Harold - Your picture will remain in our home on the walls as long as I live. I will remember the most precious days, weeks, months, and years of our lives together, especially the first day we met, our wedding day, and the day our son Brendan was born. You meant more than life to us. Always remember what we said to each other on our wedding day, "forever young". Rest in peace my husband. Your pains are over, you are in a better place. Flowers gratefully declined, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. Harold will be greatly missed by all his family and friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 8 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Andrews Presbyterian at 709 St. Marys, St. Vital.
